Optimisers
Optimisers are exactly that, incorporating technology at module level that protects against practical issues such as shading, soiling and cloud coverage protection. With Tigo optimisers, the manufacturer states 36% of any remedial problems can be resolved without going to site and on average 36% of energy production is prevented from being lost to these inefficiencies.
A normal string current, without optimisers, is defined by the weakest current; i.e., the lowest performing panel. However, a normal string current, with optimisers, is defined by the strongest current. i.e., the strongest performing panel.
We use optimisers from Tigo energy either by full deployment (every panel) or selective deployment (optimise only higher-risk panels). Tigo has a wireless communication which can encompass data from all of the solar system equipment from panel performance, inverters and battery which all feeds into 1 app for the customer with email/SMS alerts.
Tigo has a 25-year warranty and was installed in over 60,000 systems worldwide in 2021 alone.
There are also major safety benefits using optimisers which provide module level rapid shutdown. This functionality is actually mandatory by law in some states of America and it’s predicted that it will soon become mandatory in the UK.
Immersion Diverters
Immersion diverters, (sometimes called immersion optimisers) allow you to move excess electricity once the battery is full to heat your water. It’s an intelligent way to utilise the energy your solar system generates. Immersion diverters take any excess solar and diverts this to your immersion heater giving you free hot water. Typical pay back periods are around 2 years
We use the Eddi from My Energi which comes with a 3 year warranty which includes labour cost to swap the unit. The Eddi one of several complimentary products provided by My Energi which is a UK business making major inroads in the sector with the Zappi EV charger. All its products can be monitored and controlled through the My Energi app which is also available on IOS.
